为了筛选适合兰州地区栽培的西瓜新品种，对引进的3个中大果型西瓜品种和6个小果型西瓜品种进行品种比较试验，结果表明，中大果型西瓜表现好的有陇抗11号、大果黑美人，其中陇抗11号属中晚熟品种，平均单瓜重5.32 kg，中糖含量为11.5%，风味好，贮运性好，平均产量达79 857.14 kg/hm2，较对照品种陇抗9号、 丰抗8号分别增产2.76%、8.97%。大果黑美人熟性较早，平均单瓜重4.87 kg，中糖含量为11.8%，风味好，抗裂性好，极耐贮运，平均产量达73 071.43 kg/hm2，较对照品种陇抗9号、丰抗8号分别减产 5.97%、0.29%。小果型西瓜表现好的有金雷、陇丰早欣，其中金雷平均单瓜重4.32 kg，中糖含量为12.3%，风味佳，较耐贮运，折合产量64 857.14 kg/hm2，较对照品种京欣2号增产7.58%。陇丰早欣平均单瓜重3.65 kg，中糖含量为10.5%，脆甜爽口，抗裂，极耐贮运，折合产量60 785.71 kg/hm2，较对照品种京欣2号(CK3)增产0.83%。综合参试品种表现和兰州地区市场需求认为，中大果型西瓜品种陇抗11号、大果黑美人和小果型西瓜品种金雷、陇丰早欣适宜兰州西瓜产区种植。
